family support services

family support services

There are a wide range of support services for families within NSW and Australia. Here are some useful links:

PLUMTREE is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support for young children ages birth to 8 years old with a developmental delay or disability and their families. They help children to grow and develop, reach their potential and participate in the community.

RELATIONSHIPS AUSTRALIA are an independent, not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to enhancing relationships within families and their communities in order to foster personal and social wellbeing.

THE SMITH FAMILY is a national, independent children's charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves.

MARRICKVILLE LEGAL CENTRE- has been providing specialist advice and assistance to victims of domestic and family violence for over 30 years. They provide an easily accessible community-based service, with a focus on helping clients who may be uncomfortable approaching the police or court services for assistance.

NEWTOWN NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE supports people through community action and provision of services to address their needs focusing on the disadvantaged and vulnerable members in the community.

CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES

In response to the increasing number of children who are being exposed to child abuse and neglect, Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments have agreed to work together to implement a comprehensive national approach to protecting children.

The National framework for protecting Australia's children outlines an ambitious, long term national approach to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Australian children. It aims to deliver a substantial and sustained reduction in levels of child abuse and neglect.

RESOURCING PARENTS encourage and assist not-for-profit agencies (for example pre-schools, early intervention services, health, non-government agencies, councils, schools) to deliver parenting information, support and education initiatives to families in their community who have children aged 0-8 years.

HEAD SPACE is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES are located close to where you live or in your own home. We offer a range of services including Child and Family Health, Youth Health, Sydney District Nursing, Palliative Care, Sexual Health Services and more. We also provide information and education in our local communities at play groups, day care centres, schools, NGOs and at local events.

DR JAMES BEST has been a general practitioner for over twenty years, and his medical practice has a special focus on child development, child behaviour, parenting and children with disabilities.
